Today is the Second Sunday of Advent 2013. I have no doubt that it is by design, rather than chance, that I should launch the Sowing Life blog on this day. It would have been a double blessing, for December 8th is traditionally the feast day of the Immaculate Conception. However, since today is the Second Sunday of Advent, the celebration of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception has been transferred to tomorrow, Monday, 9 December 2013. But December 8th is the natural day of the feast, even if its celebration is not this date this year. Thus, I consider Sowing Life double blessed to have begun life on such important days of the liturgical year!
Advent Wreath Prayer for the Second Week of Advent
Stir up our hearts, O Lord, to prepare the ways of Thine only-begotten Son, that through His coming we may be worthy to serve Thee with purified minds. Who livest and reignest, with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.
Prayer of the Immaculate Conception
O God, who by the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, didst prepare a worthy dwelling place for thy Son, we beseech thee that, as by the foreseen death of this, thy Son, thou didst preserve her from all stain, so too thou wouldst permit us, purified through her intercession, to come unto thee. Through the same Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who livest and reignest with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.
